Oh my goodness...what was that I just read?!

Fairest tells of Levana's story:

- her traumatic childhood where she was burned and left disfigured (all at the hands of her older sister, Channery),
- her transition from Princess to Queen of Luna (after Channery dies at the age of 25, but who gives birth to Princess Selene - the true heir of Luna)
- her sham of a marriage to Evret Hayle (one of the palace guards), (she loves him but he doesn't love her)
- her jealousy of Hayle's wife, Solstice, who dies after giving birth to their daughter, Winter
- her envy of Winter and how she is the apple of Evret's eyes
- her desire to be the fairest ruler of Luna, and knowing that she will have to give up the throne once Princess Selene reaches thirteen. So Levana manipulates a nanny to burn down the nursery with her and Selene still inside
- her loathing of mirrors which results in the destruction of ALL mirrors throughout Luna
- realising that Evret Hayle has never loved her, despite manipulating him for the last ten years of their marriage and orders a former palace guard to kill him so she can be free to marry the Emperor of the Commonwealth
- then killing the palace guard who killed Hayle
- knowing she is still without an heir and hopes to forge a marriage alliance with the Emperor to unite Luna and Earth and to rectify her current barren state

So...yes, a hell of a lot going on - lots of bioelectric manipulation, attempted murder, cruelty shown from Channery to Levana and Levana to Selene/Solstice.

Fairest is a real roller coaster ride which will send your emotions into a chaotic whirlwind and gives us a very detailed insight into the life of Levana and helps to explain why she has become the cruel tyrant she currently is!

A must for fans of the Lunar Chronicles!

4.0 It wasn’t a bad book. I cringed every time she talked about her feelings and all she did to get what she wanted but it was a good book.

I hate Levana with all my heart and this book did not make me hate her less but this book made me feel very, very sorry for her on many occasions.
