It turned into a woke Hallmark movie. Cringe

If you like your cozy mystery to be sugar sweet and contain a bit of romance then you might like this.

This could be much better if it was edited better, but I still would have some problems with it.

Firstly, the main character is annoying. She is not very bright and doesn't understand that she shouldn't investigate murder not because she is a woman but because she is unqualified. She just so special. She NEVER knows when to shut up. She's just going around thinking she's so smart and has great comebacks but is really cringe. Also considering the premise you would think that there are ghost pets everywhere, but she sees a dead pet (the same dead pet) only two times in the whole book and very briefly at that, which was disappointing. Secondly, everything was too perky and bubbly for me. You can't always be this positive. And the whole town cannot act as if it is a holiday every day, realtionships don't just happen and everybody doesn't like everybody. Lastly, the murder mystery wasn't very mysterious.

All in all this was a quick enjoyable read but a bit too simple and with too many problems for me to love it.

Another bakery cozy

This backer turned amateur sleuth is a fun and lightweight read. Definitely good for vacation reading and filling the gap between meatier books.

Quick and fun read. Interesting characters, a mystery and intermittent talk of baked goods. What's not to like?
It felt like a grown up version of Nancy Drew. I've already bought the second in the series.

Cute story. Better than I was anticipating. I wish the slapstick humor from the beginning had carried throughout the book though. Right up until the end I was still unsure if I'd continue the series, but I think I will. See what's in store in book #2. Happy reading!

Fluffy and fun

I needed an easy to read fun novel and this was perfect. I was entertained by the characters. I guessed some things correctly but not the murderer.

I see why this series is appealing, with the small-town charm and dessert descriptions, but the characters didn't seem real enough for me and the murder mystery resolved super quickly. The heroine, Lottie Lemon, didn't do much actual sleuthing, either, she mostly just asked a few questions around town and kept getting told to stop investigating. The ghost animal thing only comes up a handful of times. Needs more ghost cats for sure. Way too many books in this series for me to get into.

There’s something about autumn and cozy mysteries that just seem to go together, which is why I spent the past few days tucked under a blanket with a nice cup of hot chocolate and Addison Moore‘s Cutie Pies and Deadly Lies. I’m always apprehensive when starting a new cozy mystery series, some are just to corny for my taste, but was delighted by this one. The MC is flawed but enjoyable. The setting is an enchanting town that reminds me of my own hometown, and they mystery is well plotted. There is a paranormal aspect involving seeing the ghosts of animals that was touched on, though not as deeply as I’d expected. I’ll definitely read more books in this series.
