As a huge fan of the Outlander series, I thought this may be a promising book as Diana Gabaldon as a blurb on the cover and many reviews likened it to the series. I must be in the minority, but I found this book to be very disappointing and not even a little bit like Outlander.

I had a hard time feeling connected to any of the characters - Elizabeth was almost too perfect and everyone seemed to be infatuated with her (which I found quite unbelievable). Nathaniel's character was abruptly introduced and I found the romance between him and Elizabeth happened far too quickly - one minute they were meeting, and then suddenly Elizabeth was in love with him...for reasons that did not seem to be explained in the book. Claire and Jamie Fraser they were not! Hannah and Curiousity were the only ones I really enjoyed.

I found out after reading that this was a continuation (or fanfic) of Last of the Mohicans. I didn't pick up on this since I have never read it or seen the movie but from what other reviewers have said, Donati takes some license with the characters. I also found the mentioning of Gabaldon's Claire, Jamie and Ian as saviours of one of the characters a bit odd and somewhat out of place especially knowing Gabaldon's stance on fanfiction (though apparently she did allow Donati to use her characters).

The book ended very abruptly with a "twist" introduced in the last ten or so pages. I assume this is to ensure the reader will pick up the next in the series. I'm not sure if I am interested enough in these characters or their storylines to continue on, especially as my library does not own a copy of the next in the series.

I love historical fiction and this was no exception. The characters are wonderful. And the plot twists are even better. I’ll seek out the next in the series 😊

I read this book following the Outlander series because I missed the characters. Later in her series Ian from Outlander crosses over into this story. It takes place in the late 1700s. A girl travels into the wildress with her father. There the story begins and goes in lots of directions. It is a good historical fiction with some romance too.

I did like the book, although it took me until the end to decide whether I REALLY liked it (which is why the 3 stars, instead of 4). I thought the character development really did not show up until the last 1/2 of the book. The first half just seemed to be Elizabeth and Nathanial having a lot of "intimate" moments...all of the time (really, who does it EVERY time they see their loved one??) Anyway, I did request the 2nd in the series and I am excited to see how the story continues. I had no idea that it was a 6 book series when I picked it up!!! I hope that each book improves, just like this book got better as the reading continued.

One of my most favorite historical romances. I adore this book, and I will hope to one day own a physical copy of it. I have books two and three, but not book one. This is a beautiful story about a schoolteacher and a man that's stuck in two worlds. I've read this five times now. 5 ⭐.

A boring, less spicy version of Outlander.
