This clever picture book biography is about Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The author shares information about Doyle's childhood and adult years, and explores how his writing career took off with the creation of Sherlock Holmes. The book spoils the ending of "The Reichenbach Fall" as an essential part of retelling historical events, but it doesn't spoil the twists from any of the other Sherlock mysteries it names.

I enjoyed the writing's conversational style, and the illustrations are expressive and fun. I'm already partial to the art style because of Follath's work with the Aggie Morton mystery series, but thought that her illustrations greatly enriched this story as well. I would recommend this to adult and teenage fans of Sherlock Holmes, and to kids who like this sleuth, or who are interested in mysteries or the writing life more generally.

Thank you so much Netgalley and the publisher for the review copy in exchange for honest opinion!

'Arthur Who Wrote Sherlock' is an extremely well-written biography. It not only captures the Arthur people know, the writer who brought Sherlock into existence but also includes the little known facts about his life. He was a kind and energetic person who undertook many exciting adventures and fought on behalf of people who had been cornered by injustice. He lived life according to his free will and pioneered many sports. His journey from a young boy tagged lazy and scatterbrained to one of the most celebrated writers in the world is portrayed with care and precision. I loved reading it so much. The illustration complemented the story perfectly. What an informative and entertaining read! Highly recommended.

I love middle grade biographies and I loved this one about Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I knew some things about him but really enjoyed learning more, especially about his love for truth and fairness, due in part to his childhood spent in poverty. This is a short but great introduction to one of the most famous mystery writes. The illustrations are also beautiful.

'Arthur Who Wrote Sherlock' by Linda Bailey with illustrations by Isabelle Follath is part of the Who Wrote Classics series.

Arthur Conan Doyle grew up poor, but with a mother that would tell him stories. When he learned to read, he would borrow lots of books from the library. When he gets older, he creates Sherlock Holmes. Holmes becomes so famous that Doyle decides to kill him off, but Holmes can't stay dead, can he?

I liked this biography and the great illustrations with it. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle has an interesting story and this is a good telling of it for younger readers.

This is the picture book biography of Arthur Conan Doyle, author of the Sherlock Holmes mysteries. The story follows Arthur, a man who grew up book and endured many hardships in his childhood and early adult life. When he suddenly becomes famous for writing about a detective named Sherlock Holmes the wealth and fame quickly get out of hand and Arthur doesn't know what to do. Picture book biographies are great opportunities for young children to learn about historical people from the past through story and pictures. I like that this one focuses on an author, as many focus on scientists or inventors, and also appreciate that it demonstrates that while we might explore many different career paths, sometimes it takes time and perseverance before we find the right path for ourselves. As a grade 3 teacher I could definitely see this book in my classroom library. I would recommend this book for teachers and families of children in the 5-10 age range. I so appreciate Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this great book!
