I wanted to like this book. Interesting premise, promising characters, decent mystery. But it dragged on so slowly, I just kept hoping it would end. The insta-love was off-putting as was the trope of protective/ annoyingly bossy and domineering vampire. The bad guys were very flat too. So bad. Much mean.
The supporting cast was great though, despite some random sudden personality changes (For example, Ysabeau hates witches. She wants to kill them all. Until she loves Diana.) Sophie was a sweet addition, and Marcus, Miriam, and the aunts were great as well. Not sure if they were great enough to take on book two though.....maybe if I have nothing else to read.

All in all, I REALLY enjoyed this book! Some pacing concerns (at times too fast, at others too slow) and was a bit annoyed with the possessive vampire trope at the beginning. Otherwise I enjoyed everything and the overall plot was super intriguing. I’m pumped to read the next one! Also happy I’ve read before watching the show.

I did like this book but I found it shouldn’t have been so long.

So, I was really excited about this book. Witchcraft it's basically the leitmotif of my entire life, but... this book is filled with clichés, long, boring passages that add very little if nothing to the plot (as a reader, I'm not into writing for the sake of writing in a novel). Had it been shorter with an updated take on the relationship between female and male characters, I probably would've enjoyed it a lot more (and finished it).
