I loved this book so much! The asexual representation was so sweet. The characters talk about what they want and there is consent from the first hug!

Why would it end like that?! I’m just going to assume the We Three Queens are poly lesbians until informed otherwise.

The book was good and the humor was really funny. The phone calls with Mitzi and Mytzy (which why would their parents do that?!) had me laughing for a solid minute.

The negatives about this book were the slurs used. They just made me uncomfortable when he brought up a slur for Romani people multiple times.

TJ Klune you’re sick. Sick and twisted in the head.

This book was so… oh my god. One second you’re laughing and the next your bawling your eyes out.

The scene where Gus hugs Casey and then Pastor Tommy holding Gus for the first time… no I literally cried. TJ Klune you’re paying for my therapy.

This was so sweet. I loved the exploration of grief and community. I love how ridiculous this book was, in true TJ fashion.

This was very sweet. Keeping this if nothing else, then for the feels.

It’s been a long time since a just made me feel happy, like purely, straightforwardly happy. And it’s not like I read a lot of angst, either; I genuinely have no interest in books that come with too many Big Sads or don’t have a HAE. But How to Be A Normal Person was unique because I don’t think there was a single moment I didn’t feel happy while I was reading it. Of course, I felt other emotions, too, but somehow, even during the peak of conflict, the predominant emotion was simply happy. Sure, sometimes it was complicated happiness, sometimes there was even sadness baked in, but it was always happy. In some ways, it felt like fanfic, because it’s rare for traditionally published media to focus so singularly on happiness and for drama to be so… nonthreatening.

This book is funny and sweet and the ace rep was just *chefs kiss*. I’m pretty certain it will become a comfort reread for me (maybe with a special baked treat in the future 😉).
