One of the better work books I've read in a while. Very readable, and I actually agreed with most points!

Educational and easy to read, but not entertaining per se. I could usually only handle a few sections a day. But it could be great as a workbook.

Mixed feelings about this book. Some advice was the same as many books like this that didn’t feel new or exciting, some was good advise (the last few chapters like mentoring) was good but some advise is tough to scale down to the smaller organizer people like me and many of my friends work for. I know she has a great resume and experience but I got sick of hearing about these big unrelated companies she’s worked at.

Might have been a good book to read in my 20s, but at this point in my career just regurgitates every article written on the topic.

I didn’t find a lot of new information here (we all know about the concept of the double bind), but I did find a lot of great practical advice. Hauser pushes hard against that false dichotomy that we’ve all felt in the office - that we have to choose between being abrasive in order to be “strong” at work, or be perceived as a pushover. When in fact, all we want to be at work is our authentic, kind, caring selves - while also being successful. A lot of great advice about how to put “niceness” (aka your authentic kind self) to work for you in the office, while also being effective, assertive, and setting boundaries. Recommended for good practical career tips!
