Discontinuing this series.. The quirks are triggering. I also read the latest book's reviews and it seems the MC growth is minimal.

OK, I tried, but I can't do this and it is only page 22. "His eyes were that shade of green that made jewelry superfluous." And there are seven words of dialogue on those two pages. The rest is all description and feelings.

"His smile cooled slightly as his gaze glanced off her cheek."

I'm sure this is great for someone else, but not me.

I am just becoming more and more impressed by this series. If you like listening to fantasy audible books.

I'd say a 4 1/2. Not quite a 5 but awfully close. The audio versions are 14hrs or more so I'm going to do ebook from here on out but the narrator on these books is really good. Well done characters and world building. The plot's fast moving but there is so much of it, even at that not really too slow anywhere. Lots of interesting hints for further books. Should be interesting to see where it goes.

Initial Thoughts
My initial thoughts for this one were pretty neutral. The first book in the series was pretty good and my expectations weren’t too high but I was hoping for something awesome.

My New Best Friend
I’d love Teela as a best friend. She’s really awesome. I’m honestly not the greatest fan of the main character. She’s not the smartest and is a little slow sometimes. Which is why I’d have Teela as a best friend. Plus apparently she goes out drinking a lot and drives like a maniac. Sounds like a good time.

My Crush
I LOVE Severn. He’s slightly mysterious and is always calm. I don’t know how he does it. He always does what’s expected of him and is a pretty badass fighter. nothing wrong with that.

Writing Style
The authors writing isn’t too bad but it could be way better. The plot can sometimes be a little boring and technical, especially in this book. The writing itself isn’t up to the highest quality but there’s nothing specifically wrong with it. It’s basically an average read.

Closing Thoughts
After finishing this book I wasn’t happy or sad. I personally prefer books that make me feel something. This one just ended and I put it down and picked up something else. It didn’t leave me wishing it wasn’t over. The court aspect of it was kind of tedious at times so it was getting a little boring, especially because the first book had some action. That’s not saying it was a bad book, just not my favourite.

Bonus
Nothing special really caught my attention in this book except the idea of it. It could have been so much better. Also there was a cool dragon introduced.

I enjoyed this story of Kaylin out of her comfort zone.

This is the kind of book that makes me forget I like reading. It is so excruciating for me to get through that I don't only not want to read it, I don't want to read at all.

Action happens. It's kind of incomprehensible and jumbled. Then since Kaylin hasn't gotten any sense of politics, magic, history or anything else, she has to have someone else inform her of the greater significance of what just happened. So then she relates the events that just happened in detail to another person so they can explain to her/the audience what just happened. I was like, "I JUST READ THAT. EITHER EXPLAIN IT AS IT IS HAPPENING OR DON'T GIVE US THE ENTIRE SUMMARY OF WHAT I JUST READ." It was aggravating. Step it up, Kaylin. I don't want to have things explained to me like 6 times just because you are too ignorant to draw conclusions by yourself.
