I enjoyed the first book in Tracey Livesay’s Girls Trip series, but this second installment is on another level. Nic is chief resident and on her way to a bigtime career as an orthopedic surgeon when a run-in with a privileged white male intern threatens to derail everything she’s worked for. She decides to use her unexpected time off to help out her friend and roommate, Ben, fend off an ex by pretending to be his girlfriend on a trip to Martha’s Vineyard. Only problem is somehow she’s just now noticing Ben is super hot? You need this book in your life, trust me. One word: hammock sex. Oh wait, that’s two words. Time to sign off and finish this glass of wine.

A solid 4 stars

I liked the friendship, the plot and just the whole dynamic of the book. Once I read the premise, I knew I had to borrow this book as soon as it became available at the library. Took me two days to read and I loved every moment about it hence my 4 star rating. This friend’s to lovers romance was done well and the character growth was great. I loved that Nic was a strong independent woman but with Ben she could let her guard down. Good book overall.

Could it be I'm falling in love?

When Nicole is put on a suggested vacation due to an incident between her and a spoiled resident, she thinks the hard work she put into becoming a doctor and obtaining a prestigious fellowship has gone down the drain.

Ben wanted to enjoy a week with his friends before they went to Kenya for medical missions. But when he finds out his ex-fiancee has invited herself, he needs a way to keep her from trying to rekindle a flame that has long burnt out. So, he enlights the help of his friend Nik to play his girlfriend. Unfortunately, the only people their act was fooling were them.

This is the second book in "The Girl's Trip" series, and we follow Nik as she lies to herself about her feelings for Ben. I'm glad she got a kick in her butt from her mom and friends because she needed to let some things go and live her life for the present, not the past. Ben is such a good guy, and I love that he was willing to dance with the devil who wore Prada, also known as his mother, for the woman he loved to achieve her lifelong dream. I love how Tracey's characters have real-life issues to which the reader can relate. Fingers crossed that we get a book from the remaining two friends.

Friends to lovers.

I must admit that this book was not my favorite. I love the friends to lovers trope. I love the friendship that these two have. However, there was just something missing from this story. It felt like a story I had read before.

I've been looking for a well written swoony friends to lover romance book for a while and I definitely hit the jackpot with Like Lovers Do!

I adored both Nic and Ben, their struggles and the emotional limitations they both had set for themselves felt very authentic and well grounded.

Reading about a kick-ass black woman who got all her accomplishments because of her hard work and flawless work ethic inspired me, having the hero be a wholesome GREAT guy how was trying hard as he could to find the perfect person to have a family with and be the opposite of what he experienced growing up is something I have seen first hand in real life and can completely root.

The friendships in this books were also great, and a good reflection of what adult friendships we can all aspire to have.

And of course last but not least the steam in this was very hot, there's a particular scene at the beginning of the book that will stay with me for a while, it took me by surprise in the best way.

Basically go read this book as soon as you can and enjoy the love, the friendship and quick trip to Martha's Vineyard.

I picked this one up because @stephsromancebooktalk talked it up so much in her videos and I am so glad I read it. I love books about strong females in male dominated work environments. Our main character Dr. Nicole Allen is sure that she will never be in a relationship because she refuses to put her career second but a trip with her beat friend Ben may just change her mind. I also really enjoyed the friend groups that both characters had and I am excited to go back and read the first book in The Girl's Trip series. This one was steamy and so good!

I ripped through this one. Love the main character and the whole situation. Love the women’s friendships that connect the different books and the way the author deftly weaves in issues of racism micro aggressions and privilege into a lovely frothy story with a HEA that gave us everything.
