Revolutionary for its time I guess. Not as amazing as I wanted it to be but still pretty.

A favorite of mine but I don't think it would be if I read it again (which I will do eventually)

I struggled with the slow pace of this, and never felt very strongly about the characters.

i am once again reminded why i rarely read books written by men. learning that Flaubert was a certified woman hater really makes this book so much worse. rip emma bovary you would've loved divorce. i don't want to say that the writing was beautiful but the writing was beautiful.

I must be missing something, it's well written, but 300 pages of those characters was really trying. Caught between his tedium and her nonsense, I just didn't care what was going to happen.
