Not bad. This really is below my reading level; not sure why I’m reading it. But it was decent. Some things I can see coming a mile away but this with my age and all the books I’ve read, that’s not necessarily on the author. It’s still a good series for kids.

The first Charlie Bone book, Midnight For Charlie Bone, is good. But, this one is even better. Jenny Nimmo has a great narrative style, and enough plot twists and action to keep everyone excited. As long as you can suspend your disbelief, and just go with the story, you won't be disappointed. The children characters are funny, friendly, and believable. A fantastic story. I am sure we will read the rest as well (that is, listen to them on road trips).

Opening on a time during the early 1900s, Charlie great uncle Henry is at the academy with his brother. One thing leads to another and his cousin Ezekiel send him through time to get rid of him. Many years later, Henry appears right in front of Charlie at school. Now he must help hide Henry from those who want to hurt him.

This book was just as fun as I remembered. I loved that we learned so much more about all the powers of the children of the Red King and evening more history on the endowed. We get a bit more world building in this and learn about new connects between characters and see friendships grow stronger. The biggest point made from this book is that there is a clear divide between the “good and evil” children of the red king and you can see from the hints left in this book that the story is slowly building into a large plot for future books to address.

Liked this one better than the first one, since the pace was a little faster. Still nothing inappropriate, just a little scary now and then for a younger reader.

Confusing plot and blatant Harry Potter similarities.

These books are okay. Not great, but certainly not bad. Some of the hints and foreshadowing is heavy handed and obvious, but they're also meant for kids, so I don't blame them too much. Definitely interested enough to keep reading, even if I think the characters are blind to what's right in front of them.

This series is ok for kids, but the plot is not deep enough for it to be truly interesting
