She was mine to protect, mine to defend, just fucking mine.
Unlike every other aspect of my life, I wouldn't have to share
her. Not with my brothers, not with the family, not with the Five
Points.
She belonged to me, and Eoghan O'Donnelly protected what belonged to him.
That was a fucking fact.

A ā€œmafiaā€ with arranged marriage.

Tropes?
Arranged marriage
Age gap (F18, M30-ish)
ā€œHurts her father when he hurts herā€
Owd but no cheating

Both Eoghan and Inessa are set into an arranged marriage as a peace agreement between ā€˜enemiesā€™.
Eoghan does not want it but he canā€™t go against his father; inessa was raised to be a perfect polished bride for her son to be husband:

"A handsome groom for a beautiful bride. We're going to make the congregation weep."

On the day of their wedding, two things happens:
1) he sees her bruises and after the wedding he dislocates his filā€™s arm.
2)owdā€¦ unfortunately. His mistress is on his bed in their wedding day. That is already a huge ick to meā€¦.

The story did get somewhat ā€œbetterā€.
There were times were E will talk about I being a virgin and how he canā€™t have sex bcz of thatā€¦. Eyeroll

The plot was decent. I like the dynamic Inessa had with his family especially with Eoghanā€™s brothers.

The female lead, does have a backbone but itā€™s not there. She knew that marrying someone like E, will be like any other mafia stories she has heard, but she didnā€™t expect him to be understanding:
"You're not the biggest monster I've come across.ā€

And the age was questionable. At first E didnā€™t want to be with her especially for her young age but I guess they are marriedā€¦. I donā€™t mind age gaps but not when the female lead is barely of ageā€¦.

I wished I got to se more of the main leads relationship growth; we got some crumbs but I need more then their mutualĀ  pining: ā€œIf brains could orgasm, then l'd just come.ā€
-
The main lead kind of reminded me (a little) to Nino:
I knew, at that moment, I'd never been closer to someone than I was with her.
To the world, she was my possession, but the sense of belonging I felt was different than ownership at that moment.
I didn't understand it, couldn't explain it, but I figured some things didn't need to be reasoned or defined.
They just were.
She was addictive, and she'd just reeled me in.
Hook.
Line.
And sinker.

While I enjoyed this book, the ending was very abrupt. The last chapter was such a random, abrupt ending that I didnā€™t realize the story was over. It also felt like most of the book was setting up for other couplesā€™ stories. There are random chapters in a side characterā€™s POV that donā€™t really add to Inessa and Eoughenā€™s story. For example, the chapter from Finnā€™s wifeā€™s POV where she invites Inessa to an author convention an entire year away, felt super random to have in there. I also thought it was strange that the drama and tension had nothing to do with the main characters. Overall it was a good read, but I wanted to see move development with the main characters outside of sexual encounters. There were so many side characters introduced I had a hard time keeping them straight.
