This book was ok. It wasn’t the best it over exaggerated some situations and the writing was kinda plain. Liked the idea though.

Well, this is one of the most amazingly written and beautiful book I have EVER had the honor to read; and that's saying something. This book was sitting on my bookshelf for at least a year and finally I said "Hey, its only 276 pg's, it should be a light read." What a fucking joke, it was anything but light.(You will cry , that's a given) I did not expect what I got out of this book. I did not expect to be a sobbing mess in the middle of the night (literally its 2 am!) with tissues surrounding me. I did not expect to admire and be able to understand all these characters in the way I did. I honestly dont know how I hadn't picked this up yet! Don't make my mistake PICK IT UP

I admire Sophie so much. She is honestly the most kick-ass female protagonist ever. Not because she knows how to fight or defeat the villains but because she finds silver linings in between all the horrible crap that surrounds her. She doesn't let that destroy her but rather empower her to become Sophie, not Quinn or Q , but Sophie the loyal friend to those who did and didnt deserve her loyalty.

Her relationship with George is so sincere and beautiful. They both needed each other. One to have the love and father figure she didnt have and the other a loyal friend to remember and hear about the soldiers and their culminating moments. The rest of the characters were just as significant and powerful. Carey and Blake did not have huge parts in the book but they did in Sophie's life and we felt that. I cannot even begin to explain the terrific writing that Corrine Jackson has done here. She wrote about sacrifice, friendship, bullying, loss and self discovery in such a manner that would leave even the most cold hearted person shedding tears.

The book leaves you satisfied; getting to know Sophie, Carey, George, Blake, and Sophie's parents in-depth and why everything turned out the way it did. I highly HIGHLY recommend this book. If you do decide to read this book please have a box of tissues next to you and learn from my mistake and dont start this book at 10pm because you wont be able to put this book down until your done.

Also, this book does center around the military and so it touches the subject of The Veterans History Project. If you want to learn more please go to www.loc.gov/vets. If you want to get involved with the US department of Veterans Affairs facility around your area go to www.volunteer.va.gov/
Remember you can meet people like George (Who honestly was the best character in this book)

Lastly thank you to all of our troops and their families and to Corrine Jackson for taking me on this roller coaster; I will definitely not be forgetting this story anytime soon.

Some of my favorite Quotes:

"I'm standing right in front of you and you cant even see me!"

“You're not one of those cranky old people who uses their age as an excuse to be a prick, are you?”

“Sometimes a moment defines you, defines how people see you for the rest of your life. You can accept it or fight it. If you're lucky, you'll recognize the moment when it happens."

I didn't want to put this book down. Sophie "Quinn" is an outcast in her small military town, caught kissing another boy when her 'boyfriend' is deployed. She deals with being abandoned by her mother, her father's dislike for her - which she learns was meant for her mother, and keeping a secret. I laughed and cried. This book took me on an emotional Rollercoaster I will forever appreciate.

I was not down with this book until about halfway through, I think it was the photography references that really didn't work for me. And then I had a bottle of wine before reading the second half, and I cried through the end (which maybe was partially the wine's fault, partially due to personal experiences in the past few weeks).

The writing didn't move me, but the story was something. There may have been cheap emotional gimmicks involved.

Heartbreaking. Intense. Moving. Each of those words can be used to describe If I Lie, but none of them can single-handedly put into words how breathtaking Corrine Jackson's debut novel is.

Sophie Quinn made a promise to her best friend, her boyfriend, Carey. He didn't know the hell she would go through to keep his secret, but she has endured it all for him. When will he get the courage to tell and how much longer before she can get her life back?

Talk about a great friend. After learning the biggest secret her boyfriend could ever have, she agrees to keep it. Sophie didn't know what would come of it. Even when she was called a slut and a traitor, she kept her promise to him because it wasn't her secret to tell. A friend like that is hard to come by. Very few people I know would be able to do that.

If I Lie went above and beyond my expectations. I hoped to be sucked into the story line and I was. The big bomb was dropped early in the story and I wanted needed to know how it would end. I expected the big secret to drop at the end, but it didn't. This fact made the story unique and much different than what I'm used to seeing in most novels. There were flashbacks to enlighten the read to everything leading to the present and instead of telling all of the back story at once, it was revealed slowly, always stopping when it was about to get good. It built up the intensity the further I got and I never wanted to stop reading. I loved that the main focus wasn't all on Sophie being ostracized. We see her outside of school a lot talking with George, a veteran who accepts her, faults and all.

Overall, If I Lie went beyond my wildest imagination. Corrine Jackson did a magnificent job crafting a novel that I will read over and over again. If you love contemporary young adult you will most certainly enjoy this one. Pick it up ASAP for a truly outstanding read!

This book simply alright for me. It really had a young feel to it that I thought was just a little too young for my personal preference. The story line was interesting enough, however, the great mystery in the novel is revealed fairly quickly. I would have loved to be in suspense a little while longer to make me want to read the book so that I could figure out what was happening. Overall, this was just an alright read.

First thing first, this is definitely Young Adult genre, so make sure you are in correct mindset when starting it.

Now, with that being said, this book... Ah, this book was such a surprise.

It has so many layers of emotions, and conflicts: bullying to the extreme, loyalty, attachment, tenderness.
All that, and more: war veterans, school bullies, deployed soldiers, teenage love, sexual identity conflicts, parental friction, volunteering.

Lovely.
