It took me about half the book to really get into it, but once I did I really liked it. I didn't like the girl's character at first--too whiny and weak, but becoming a werewolf really improves her. It's the first in a series and I'm really interested in seeing where it goes.

definitely YA, but a good one.

This was a re-read, I liked it when I was younger (age 13 ish) but re-reading it I felt it was a bit dull and predictable. The main character was not very likable but it was a quick read.

I gave it 3.5 stars

S.M. Reine brings us a new take on how werewolf's came to be in SIX MOON SUMMER. Rylie the main character is sent to camp for the summer while her parents go through a divorce. She does not want to be there and spends a lot of time in her room which causes people to single her out as "freak". There is a small bit of romance. The love interest Seth comes along and seems to know all about what Rylie is going through after she is attacked and finds herself back in her cabin mysteriously. Throughout the summer he is there for her every step of the way. The story has some great twists and turns. I didn't expect some things to happen and didn't see other things happening the way they did until they were revealed which is always refreshing. There were some great emotional scenes thrown in that had me feeling things right beside Rylie. I had no problem connecting to the situations and the tears were flowing at one point pretty good. I wasn't happy with the ending, All this stuff happened throughout the book and Rylie went through so much and the ending made me feel very unfulfilled. Since this is the first book in a planned series I have to hope that the next book will bring me some satisfaction. If you enjoy YA werewolf books I think you would enjoy this just be prepared for a big cliffhanger at the end.

Felt like we were instantly thrown into her getting changed. There was no real story build up. It was just like oh she took a walk in the forest and wound up a werewolf.

I liked this story ok, but the writing did feel a bit ... amateurish? It didn't seem to have the same polish and flow as other books I've read. Much of it seemed a bit cliche too ... forced to go to camp, all the other girls against her, the mysterious boy. I felt Seth was a little too full of knowledge and easily everywhere (I guess that was explained though).

This was written in 3rd person, which I generally prefer over 1st person. There were a few times though that the perspective seemed to slip a bit though. And just some odd sentences written in question form ...

"Rylie stared up at the waxing sliver of moon in the sky. Why had Rylie, of all people, been bitten" ... it seems like it would have been better to have the second sentence be phrased "Rylie wondered, why of all people, had she been bitten?" (later again, the text says "Why had Rylie gone to such a place?" ... is the author asking the reader?
