Ok, this one finally broke away from the romance trope of NO COMMUNICATION. I feel like the characters weren't as developed as I'd have liked, and I wish there were more changes in scenery, but it definitely gave me some sexy summer vibes š

Accustomed to her hockey books which are wildly funny, this is a tamer version of this authorās wacky humor. But what the book lacks in funny, it reclaims in emotion. This book is equally funny and emotional and it was a fantastic read.
Twins Rian and Marley Sutter are working as realtors in The Hamptons. Their dream is to flip houses and make a living out of it, and ultimately purchase the Mission House where they used to live with their grandmother when they were little. Their father, a realtor turned criminal, sold the house and fled the country when he was uncovered. He left the twins to their luck when they were merely eighteen years old. They lost everything but they fought their way out of the debt and the scandal and are making ends meet.
Enter hottie Pierce Whitfield, who barges on Rian in a grocery store where sheās buying her beloved Cinnamon crunch cereal. He accused her of tapping his car and she denied it, then they hear an āoh, shitā and turn to see her twin in plain flight. Eventually they settle Pierceās claim, Marley gets a scold from Rian and Pierce starts stalking Rian, asking for a date. Incredibly, although the twins look alike, Rian is the one Pierce is attracted to, and he really wants to pursue something with her.
As with most twins, Rian is the serious one and Marley is the flighty one. Marley is all for Rian having a fling with Pierce, but Rian knows to keep men at arms length due to their past history. Rian is increasingly attracted to Pierce, but she is slightly paranoid and afraid of being rejected once Pierce finds out who her father is. The plot gets convoluted because the twins and Pierce and his brother Lawson are working in the same area and going for the same houses. The girls are realtors but want to start flipping houses; and Pierce and his brother buy and flip houses. Rian and Pierce make a deal to separate the personal from the professional and things get hot and smexy between them.
This story has a great pace, a lot of funny and a lot of heart. Initially Marley seemed flaky but then we learn that sheās just a party girl and she tends to enjoy life more. Rian has misgivings and trust issues and these feelings stand in the way to share more of herself with Pierce. Pierce has daddy issues, heās attached to his inheritance, but he doesnāt like his work which is attached to his trust. Heās evolving but heās a work in process. The plot gets convoluted, gets tangled, gets funny and we get to read a very entertaining story with bits of great humor and some other bits of heartfelt scenes.

This was a really fun and sexy read and a great addition to the series. Rian and her sister have been on their own since she was 18 and have built up their own real estate business and now plan on flipping houses. Pierce is an attorney but would really like to be flipping houses instead. These two meet and the sparks fly and not always in a good way. I just loved the chemistry and the banter between them. This was a really fun book and I enjoyed it

This is a fun book. I loved Pierce. He was funny, sexy, romantic and generous. The only reason I didn't give it 5*s was that the real estate business was a little boring. Otherwise, the characters and the love story were wonderful.

Helena Hunting is very funny. Sheās very good at writing genuinely likable characters and interesting storylines. After having read two of her books, I think sheās sold me into reading whatever sheās published.

This fun, often funny enemies-to-lovers romance was the perfect read while sitting in a waiting room for a long time. I even forgot the uncomfortable chair and the horrible muzak as I fell into the lives of Rian, who with her sister Marley, have managed to pull their lives together after being dumped by unscrupulous con artists parents, and Pierce, whose dad started out humble but has come up in the world.
Marley is a bit of a loose cannon, which begins with her scraping Pierce's Tesla in a parking lot, and driving away. He corners Rian in a grocery store, thinking she's the culprit, and demands restitution, she fires right back at him, and the fun begins.
Here's the thing about the enemies to lovers trope. I've enjoyed it ever since I saw Taming of the Shrew as a high school student. But, unlike many readers, I lose interest fast if the two characters descend to bickering and stay on that same note through the book until the magical sex scene at the end that Cures All. A lot of readers like that, or such books wouldn't be best sellers, but it doesn't hold my interest.
Hunting does a great job of handling the emotional roller coaster while the sparks fly, tempered by the high octane attraction between the two. There is a ton of exuberant sex all through this book, but Hunting doesn't make sex a cure all. In fact, both have to deal with the emotional fallout of their attraction in convincing ways, adding in Rian's trust issues due to her background. I felt their coming together at the end was earned, not thumbed in by the author.
The only complaint I have is small. Otherwise I adored the minor characters, especially the older women who showed up here and there, and I found Pierce's brother Lawson, in his own way as much of a loose cannon as Marley, interesting.
Add in a lovely setting (the Hamptons in summer) and some fascinating deets about real estate, which made for a very satisfying read.

Marley pretty much is forgotten by the end, when so much has been made of the two sisters being all in all to each other, but then Marley, it is clear, always lands on her feet, so I didn't find it too disappointingAdd in a lovely setting (the Hamptons in summer) and some fascinating deets about real estate, which made for a very satisfying read.

This is everything you would expect from a Helena Hunting story. There are so many laughs and swoons and heart palpitations, you will forget everything else and just lose yourself in this story. I loved the characters and their banter and chemistry was amazing! I absolutely love the Shacking Up books and I can't wait to read more from Helena!
