True to every review I’ve read, this was a deeply thoughtful and captivating read from start to finish. The main characters are complex, the plot complicated as it explores questions of identity that differ greatly from person to person, and circumstance to circumstance. It demonstrates how every decision, every lie can have enormous consequences that reverberate across generations. Highly recommend the audiobook version!

This book is beautifully written! I especially loved how the story stretched over generations, and how the twins’ choices had significant effects on their daughters. I also have to say the title is brilliant! I also loved how this book is told in different perspectives, although it was easier for me to accept Desiree and her choices, and harder to accept Stella, the decisions she made, and the lie she lived to keep them. The Vanishing Half is a thought-provoking, educational read that explores racial identity, and proves you never escape who you really are. Everyone should read this book!
