I'll admit I don't really know the second doctor all that well so I can't really commend on how true the story is to his character. I also have never read anything of Michael Scott before so I didn't really know what to expect. We get a short and sweet classical story about the second Doctor, his Scottish companion Jamie and The Nameless City. Of course, this is a place where no one ever returns from... We get all over the top drama and excitement, an interesting set up, it's just that this short story is too short for anything else to develop. So it ends rather abruptly. Still, I enjoyed this story and I was pleasantly surprised by Scott's writing style.

This is definitely a Second Doctor story. Frazer Hines is a great audiobook reader and it really makes it feel like a second Doctor story. The ideas are cool, and the resolution is clever. My biggest problem with this story is who the villain is.
Spoiler Why would the Master go after the Second Doctor? Sure, the Master doesn't like any of the forms the Doctor takes, but story wise I just think it makes more sense for the first Master story in this series to be with the Third Doctor. Oh well.
Even with that issue, I liked the story overall.

This was a fun jump into the second doctor. As Jamie is one of my favorite companions, I thought Scott did him justice introducing his personality and history. The story was fast paced and the world they were visiting was well built in my head. Gives me hope for the rest of this series!

2.5 stars. It was all right. I enjoyed Jamie as a companion more than anything else in this story.

A tale of the 2nd Doctor, the Nameless City, the origins of the TARDIS and I wanted to shout "show don't tell" at least 57 times during this book. Still, it was fun, entertaining, not great, but good.

Doctor Who meets Lovecraftian horror - though not quite as unspeakable horrifying as that sounds. Michael Scott perfectly understands the Second Doctor and Jamie - both as individual characters and as a truly dynamic duo. Here, he crafts this deliciously dark tale featuring the Necronomicon, a nameless city, and unknowable masses of swirling darkness that prove difficult to even look at. It’s quick-paced, perhaps a bit too quickly paced at times. But it’s a thrilling read, and a lovely “what if” scenario imagining the Second Doctor in a very modern kind of Doctor Who episode.

Also, Frazer Hines (Jamie himself) reads the audio version of this story, and he does an absolutely remarkable job.
