I enjoyed this follow-up to Alice in Wonderland, but I think it clicked with me a bit less than this previous story. Maybe I just understood it less or enjoyed the imagery a bit less; it just felt a bit less purposeful and, for lack of better word, fun to me.
I listened to this as an audiobook on Audible.

What a lovely adventure. The first one will always be better, in my opinion, but that’s mainly because this book had too much random poetry and song scattered in. I did love the Walrus and the Carpenter, which is just so strange that you have to laugh. And I adore the Queens. (I really hate what the Disney live-action film did with the Queens and the hatter). Very glad I decided to reread these two books againÂ

Having just seen the newly released Disney film based on this book I first learnt that this book even existed and second looked forward to reading it so promptly downloaded it on my Kindle. I knew to expect something quite different from the film, but this was so dissimilar that you can barely say it was based on it.
I was really disappointed with this book. Although I had expected the story to be crazy and unusual based on Alice in Wonderland, this book was just too weird to make it enjoyable. There was very little in the way of a plot and the majority of the writing slipped from being unusual to just plain not making any sense.
It is a good job that at 87 pages this book is a very quick read because even so I found myself having to force myself to continue reading it. I read the whole thing in one go as I soon came to the conclusion that if I took a break from the story I would find it very difficult to persuade myself to come back to it again.

had less to offer than the first book {less memorable than the original alice in wonderland} (was a sequel really necessary? i felt like the ending of the last book was well rounded and it was acceptable as a standalone but ig it is a requirement to milk it if your first book turned out to be that successful but good for lewis carroll! get that paycheck xx) but i won't lie, it was still enjoyable. liked the chess-y aesthetic and the new characters!
