This had similar treads to Becoming, but was also distinctly its own. The angle of this book is very conversational and engaging. At times it felt a bit repetitive at times. I appreciated the overall topics, but found the specifics to be verging on pushy at times. It had a significant self help feel, which works for some and not for others. For me, I took some and left some, where it didn't speak to me. Audiobook is the way to go.

Yo, I can’t even right now…this was the best gift I could have given myself to start 2024. I’m tempted to hit play and just start it all over again. And I think I might, later this year, when I need a reminder of hope, and taking care of myself, and going high when the world is ugly. This woman is brilliant and can write the most meaningful messages in the simplest manner; her stories are magic.

Tons of wisdom from Michelle Obama’s life as daughter, wife, mother, First Lady, friend, and a Black woman. Tackles Racism 101, inclusivity, parenting, class, power, voice, self, identity, viciousness, and so more, coming back to her speech way back when she first said to the crowds, “When they go low, we go high.”

“I believe that each of us carries a bit of inner brightness, something entirely unique and individual. A flame that's worth protecting. When we are able to recognize our own light, we become empowered to use it. When we learn to foster what's unique in the people around us, we become better able to build compassionate communities and make meaningful change.”

I really enjoyed Michelle Obama's memoir Becoming and was excited to read another book by her! The Light We Carry is all about retaining hope in times of turmoil and uncertainty, so it spoke to me on a personal level. The book is full of positive messages and advice on how to bring light to others and connect with people. The author includes her own experience in the form of anecdotes to underline her advice! I enjoyed listening to the audiobook, as it's narrated by the author and gave an even more personal feel to the story.
