There were some stunners in here! Snow, Apples and Glass was an amazing twist on the Snow White tale, and Nicholas Was... an even better twist on Santa Claus. And he tackles something that has enamoured me forever - how the Earth was formed by God (which I have always kept spinning in the back of my mind as a story option), and he takes it from a biblical perspective, and what truly prompted Lucifer's outrage at God's unjust way. An amazing storyteller, is Neil Gaiman.

Brilliant book of stories, much better than the later Fragile Things.

Maybe I'm just not a short story person, maybe it's just that these are average. I don't know. I do know I get annoyed at too many 'inspired by' (Lovecraft, fairy tales, Lovecraft again, Beowulf, folk tales again) stories. It was fine. It was not impressive.

I really wanted to love this more. Some of the stories I loved and others were really hard to get through. Neil Gaiman is one funky dude.
