”With the blood of the undead flowing through his veins, I am curious to see what will become of him when the morning light breaks. Does he even understand what he has become?”

Honestly this was so cool.

A jar that holds a beating heart. Ghostly fingers knocking at a second-story window. Wood splinters digging in under long fingernails. Cockroaches crawling, en masse, from a freshly unearthed grave. I was searching for a spooky fall read, and Dracul delivered!

”He’s come for us, Bram. He wants me, but he wants you most of all.”

This prequel to Dracula, written in the modern day by an actual descendent of Bram Stoker, held true to the romantic language and historical constraints of the day, while adding so much well-researched insight and creative depth to both Dracula’s and Stoker’s backstories. An absolute delight to read.

It was maybe a little longer than it needed to be, but the fascinating details in the authors notes more than made up for it, and made me glad I pushed through to the end.

”I believe his severed heart is beating even now…”

A easy to read backstory to the original Dracula. Thoroughly enjoyable, a fun holiday read.

If I could give this more than 5 stars I would! I’ve read Dracula dozens of times since since doing a project on it in Highschool. It’s one of my all time favorite books! The specific descriptions of Ellen had me thinking something was off but I never would have linked her that closely to Dracul. And the ending oh my god when I saw Harker I screamed so loud it scared my mother. I was wondering how this would tie in to the original book. Oh it was such a good read and I’ll definitely be visiting it again.
