“‘My colors are mine. I’m not carrying your shame for what you did. Only my pride. For surviving you.’” (164)

So, I appreciated this book a lot. It’s a non-linear story that uses traditional narrative combined with prose to create this multidimensional, multigenerational exploration of trauma and healing.

This story is told through two, young Aboriginal female characters — Beth and Catching. Both have suffered immense personal trauma, that they feel guilt and shame for, even though what happened to them is neither of their faults. Through meeting each other and hearing each other’s pain, hearing how each other has survived what has happened to them, they learn not only how to face their trauma and name it but also how to move on and to be happy again.

Very moving and I definitely recommend!

A solid YA book, moved a little quickly at times for me and I didn't like the style that Catcher's chapters were written in (would've liked more meat and descriptions, to immerse in her story so that
Spoilerthe eventual reveal of the bunker and her assault hits harder
)

This story is so important and I'm so glad that it exist.
Unfortunately I didn't click with Beth at all and her chapters made me annoyed so quickly since she was so quick to judge and make conclusions without thinking at all.
Catching's chapters were the best parts of the story and eventually her character made the story for me.
Even though there were parts I didn't enjoy, I would still recommend this book to everyone as it is talking about history that is often forgotten and we shouldn't let that happen.
