I saw so much of myself in these characters - more than being a love story, this was a story about stepping out of your comfort zone, letting people love you as you are and staying true to yourself. Loved it.

So Enjoyable

This was a very satisfying read. It was refreshing to read about a mature couple going through their courtship. I especially loved that the angst was kept to a minimum. White strayed from the formulaic “break up to make up” storyline that is so heavily overused in contemporary Black romance books. Their love journey flowed so nicely. The drama with their professional lives was interesting and well written. I found myself laughing quite a few times while reading this. It was such an entertaining story.

This week I read #TheNeverList by #DLWhite . I obviously picked this on because the cover is just so lovely. This book is about a successful woman named Esme, who has lived a successful life, but a life without adventure. She is assigned to a project that puts her alongside Trey, a man with a dream and a good heart. After Esme makes a list of all the things she's never done, Trey steps in to support her while she faces her fears and levels up in life. Y'all this book was very sexy and very cute. The author set this book in Atlanta, and she must be a native because the dialogue is perfect and modern. I also love that Esme was a late-in-life virgin and wasn't portrayed as defective in some way. She was simply a woman who had made choices. Also there's a very sly scene in a conference room where Trey lays down the gauntlet..it's basically "I see you, I'm attracted to you, do you think of me?, I think of you constantly, and when we're done with this work, I'm ready to pursue you full-time if you're down."

I LOVED the synopsis for this book, but I just didn’t love Trey, the writing, or the way Esme’s singleness was made to seem like such a bad thing.

I liked how this book had a great romance and a great message about working for your dreams. It didn’t shy away from the fact that success requires breaking old habits, facing your fears, and working for it.
SpoilerI also liked that there was a bipolar character and she, too, had to work to improve and stabilize (and also find the right meds!)

I will definitely be buying more of this author’s books.
