Like all of Orwell's books, it's dark and tense. Definitely not the book to read if you're looking for a feels good. It's definitely a classic for a reason and an easier read than 1984. Short and face paced but gets right to the point and is easy to understand. It will definitely leave you frustrated and feeling sad/angry as is the point. Might have to make sure you are in the right mindset when reading it but it is definitely one everyone should read at least once.

  • pretty enjoyable to read, sometimes i forgot which animals were who but that was more on me than the book
  • i’d read it again and definitely annotate next time
  • interesting connections to communism and capitalism especially with the themes and ideas centralised around the cold war and west vs east ideologies (USA/USSR)
  • i would’ve LOVED to read this in school it would’ve been way more enjoyable compared to anything we were given

This book ended much better than I expected. I was not very invested in the premise of the book until 70 pages in when it started to peak my interest. I was able to draw a lot of parallels between the classism of this book and a certain pig faced president who was recently voted out of office. Very scary that this book was written so long ago and yet we continue to repeat history. Overall I think it's a book that everyone should read, but it's not my favourite.

Animal Farm is an allegory about farm animals that rise up and take over their farm. At first, the animals all work for themselves and to better their lives, but quickly things start to devolve.

I don't think I'd say this was an enjoyable story, but it is very interesting. It also has a good lesson and an anti-rich message. I also think it's fascinating how one can alter a story of a being after they have left like in the case of Snowball. Overall, this book is useful and can probably be a great teaching aid (though I don't remember what we did with it when I was in high school).
