Loved it - my favorite Harry Hole book yet (but I will never look at a snowman the same way again!)

In prose alone, The Snowman is a cut above all the other Harry Hole books that preceded it. If you think The Redbreast outshines The Bat and Cockroaches so much that you don't even need to bother with them, prepare to be blown away (though this one almost requires you to have read The Bat, unlike any of the others).

In terms of plot, though - if you've read all the other Harry Hole books then you'll probably find this pretty predictable. The biggest surprise for me personally was the length of Harry's inevitable bender. It's still satisfying, somehow, but even with the better writing it's starting to wear a bit thin. I hope the next books in the series bring something new to the table.

3.5 STARS- I guessed the killer pretty quickly during the book but the ride was still entertaining.

The mystery was good and kept me guessing. Though, I didn't like that the main character was fallible in his theory, multiple times. It had the right amount of humor that kept me engaged. I plan to go back and read the first book in the series.

Woof. This book was ruthless. Full of twists, some I saw coming and others not. Not for the faint of heart. This one is graphic.

Who would have thought that a simple snowman could be so menacing? Nesbø has crafted a meticulous, disturbing mystery spanning time and exploring relationships in this novel. I admit to getting impatient with the numerous red herrings midway, and some of the content was a bit too graphic. Nesbø also has a habit of detailing the motivations and backstories of minor characters when a brief synopsis or mention in conversation would suffice. I did thoroughly enjoy everything about Harry Hole as the main character, flaws and all, and he would be fun to follow through another mystery.
