I liked it but it was a bit too insta love and a bit too little angst. I don't think you got to know both characters equally. Cute

This was beautiful. I loved the connection between the MCs and how much they cared for each other.

Ignorance is not bliss when it’s downright cruel

What Sean and other kids like him have have had to overcome due to the ignorance of others is terrifying. Such a sweet, trusting soul that others abused. Unable to believe someone can truly love him as he is.

This story will break your heart and you’ll find yourself screaming to the heavens asking why, only to have it pick up the pieces and put you back together again.

I loved Heartsong. It was so much more than I was expecting. It is a great addition to the Vino and Veritas series set in Sarina Bowen’s World of True North, and it can be read as a standalone.

It’s an age gap romance with a very strong hurt/comfort element and a bit of insta-love mixed in. There is a strong attraction between Sean and Cooper from the beginning, and feelings get involved pretty fast, but there’s a lot of character development so it doesn’t have that super-fast vibe and feels pretty well done.

Cooper has recently moved back to Vermont after being gravely injured in the military and is determined to make a new life for himself. His first step is remodeling his new house, and he has agreed to let an old friend’s nephew to stay with him while attending Moo U in exchange for help with the renovations. He’s still coming to terms with his physical limitations and what he wants from life when Sean comes into his life.

Sean is super excited to leave West Virginia behind and start fresh in Vermont as an out gay man. He’s not ready for his feelings for Cooper though. And their relationship gets even more complicated when it brings to the surface deeply hidden wounds that he didn’t know he had.

I loved this story. It’s heartbreaking and emotional, but it has so many emotional and heartwarming moments to counterbalance all the feels. It deals with heavy subjects like physical disabilities, PTSD, internalized homophobia and homophobia in a way that gives them the importance and sensitivity they deserve. The story is unburdened by the weight of those heavy and difficult subjects though. It flows naturally.

Cooper is such a great guy. He’s adorable and so loving and strong despite everything he’s been trough. Sean is very insecure and funny, and he has so many layers. He’s awkward and moody, and struggling with his sexuality.

It’s a very emotional story about healing and new beginnings and learning to love who we are just the way we are. There are lots of feels and enough heat to keep things balanced. I really enjoyed reading this book.
