For me, this book had more combat than I typically prefer to read and some of the combat dragged on for too long to keep my attention. This is the only thing I didn't like about the writing itself.

This book also features golems but the author did not take care to look into the historical and religious impact of golems from the standpoint of the Hebrew religion and I think that the misrepresentation is not directly problematic but the lack of care is somewhat disappointing.

Overall, I really like the characters and the story told here. The romance is satisfying and the plot is both challenging and fun.

I really enjoyed this book and loved the characters (especially Brand). Although I don’t think the author excelled at world building (specifically with their societal structure), I felt like there were a few errors in the book that editing didn’t catch.  I’m also not the biggest fan of fantasy worlds based off the real world either, but I’m hooked and will be reading the rest of this series.

Side note: In my head Brand was Roy Kent from Ted Lasso and Addam spoke like Prince Merkimer from Disenchantment.

Love this book! The world is fascinating. A great modern fantasy with magic and mystery.

This was a reread and I loved it all over again.
