I really enjoyed this book and loved the characters (especially Brand). Although I don’t think the author excelled at world building (specifically with their societal structure), I felt like there were a few errors in the book that editing didn’t catch.  I’m also not the biggest fan of fantasy worlds based off the real world either, but I’m hooked and will be reading the rest of this series. 

Side note: In my head Brand was Roy Kent from Ted Lasso and Addam spoke like Prince Merkimer from Disenchantment.

The action is so good and the romance is developed well. I really like Brand and Rune’s relationship too, it feels so close and genuine and sort of goes past what a normal friendship/brotherhood is but it’s still not necessarily romantic either. It’s interesting and I love their dynamic.

Interesting world building and I like the characters and plot. But the infrequent memories and discussion of sexual violence against a 15 yo really pulled me out of the book. Just not for me
