Often too cute, lacking in lyricism, sometimes elevated. Quite good when good

I wish I had added this to my currently reading, because I'd love to know how long it took me to read a short poetry book on the toilet! Finding a collection by one of my favourite poets in the bathroom of a new if temporary house was a wonderful coincidence and I loved reading it - Billy Collins' style is so comforting to me, and he so often gets right to the heart of mundane moments. 'American Sonnet', the opener of the collection was by far my favourite, and I will cherish it for a long time to come.

Not as consistent as other collections I've read, but does include some favorites and some surprises. I both loved and disliked the fluidity of the collection; one poem leading into the next, connected by words or themes. It seemed lovely at times yet too obvious at others.
Of course the title poem is my most favorite by Collins.
Some poems worth visiting:
Nostalgia
Forgetfulness
Purity

"We die only when we run out of footprints."
This might be one of my most favorite books of poetry. Billy Collins is a gift.

I think this is the best Collins collection that I've read yet. I started earmarking the pages that I loved, and after a while it felt like all the pages were earmarked. :)
