Started off promising but drifted into an odd collection of stories involving both characters without much depth or connection

I had high hopes when this book started with a James Baldwin quote. The premise/first few chapters were decent but the execution of this story fell flat for me.

The timeline was nonlinear, but it didn't really serve a purpose. It made the story feel disjointed and I was usually confused about when the story was happening.

The premise of these two women being best friends and having all this history doesn't really work if you barely see them spend any time together or have meaningful interactions. There wasn't strong characterization of the two MCs and if you asked me any questions about them I couldn't really describe their individual personalities...besides messy, I guess.

The only item I would have liked added is a note of how much time passed between chapters. But that might have been on purpose after reading one of the lines in the last chapter (not a spoiler) - “We were moving fast now, everything sped up; the years seemed to fly past like nothing.”

Great bisexual representation. Wonderfully complex characters. A slow read - in the very best possible way. Parents, children, friends, romantic friends, orientation.
