What I liked
+ Great and quirky humor - poked fun at some genre tropes
+ Beautiful, thoughtful prose
+ Enjoyed the underlying themes. A lot of what I like about fantasy - interesting questions about humanity posed in a fantastical setting to give the reader a unique view on life.

What I disliked
- Characters seemed inconsistent
- I got lost on some plot points - felt like they weren't clear. Could be the prose got too poetic/flowery to derive some meaning.
- The unicorn character came off as not very likable at times

I bought this book after noticing it while browsing Book Depository. It caused massive throw backs of very early memories of the cartoon feature which I had adored.
Beagle has a style all to his own. I like that there isn't constant unnecessary explanation of everything that goes on and some cause goes unsaid. I highly recommend this to all readers looking for their own fairytale.

I read the edition that has an introduction by Patrick Rothfuss (Author of the Kingkiller Chronicle) and loved his intro. Makes me all the more excited to read his books later this year.
The poetic language of the book made it feel enchanting as well as fed into the story of a world in change. Change from being a world of magic and beauty to that of reality, hardship, and where miracles and unicorns have little place save for stories. In that aspect it felt like a bit of a cautionary tale. Don't grow up so much that you are unable to see the unicorn where some might see a white mare.
Molly Gru was my favorite human character. A woman hardened by life yet still gentle hearted enough to see a unicorn.
The unicorn was a very interesting character. I never knew if I liked the part she played in the story or if I wanted more from her. At times she felt like a by standard to her own story, others she was the heroine of the tale. But I suppose that's what made her character a contrast from all her mortal companions.
Still, there was something in this book that had me fighting between four stars and five. I loved it enough that I rounded up though. No need to make reading books any more complicated than it has to be.

Gorgeous writing, lovely story, could have used more information about King Haggard's motivations.
