Helena S. Paige ist das Pseudonym dreier Freundinnen, die dieses Buch gemeinsam geschrieben haben. Bei "Kommt eine Frau in eine Bar" handelt es sich um einen interaktiven Roman, bei dem man als Leser Einfluss auf die Handlung nehmen kann. Die Idee, selbst zu bestimmen, wie eine Geschichte weitergeht, finde ich wirklich grandios! Man kann das Buch auch öfter lesen und immer andere Handlungsstränge wählen. Leider gefällt mir die Umsetzung nicht ganz so gut. Wirklich viel Einfluss nehmen kann man im Endeffekt nämlich gar nicht, da sich der Ausgang der Geschichte eigentlich nicht großartig verändert. Nur im Mittelteil kann man als Leser so richtig ins Geschehen eingreifen. Ich hätte mir eine facettenreichere Geschichte mit verschiedenen Schlussmöglichkeiten gewünscht.
Leider kann es passieren, dass die Geschichte ziemlich schnell endet. Es kommt darauf an, welche Wege man beim Lesen wählt. Der Leser selbst wird im Buch in der 2. Person angesprochen. Das ist für mich das größte Manko dieses Buches. Mir gefällt das überhaupt nicht. Ich kann mich nämlich gar nicht in die Protagonistin hineinversetzen, mich nicht mit ihr identifizieren. Wäre sie eine greifbare Person mit eigenem Namen, würde mir dieser Roman bestimmt viel besser gefallen. Wenn man sich nur berieseln lassen will, ist dieses kurzweilige Buch vielleicht das Richtige. Mir war es jedoch etwas zu anspruchslos, da habe ich schon einige bessere Erotikromane gelesen. Ich bin etwas enttäuscht von diesem Buch, trotzdem werde ich auch noch den zweiten Band lesen. Das interaktive Konzept finde ich nämlich wirklich spannend. Ich hoffe, dass "Kommt eine Frau zur Hochzeit" etwas fantasievoller und variationsreicher sein wird.

Choose Your Own Adventure for Grown-Ups.
So...needing books published in 2014 as well as a book that would fall under erotica for some challenges, A Girl Walks Into a Bar: Your Fantasy, Your Rules by Helena S. Paige caught my eye as I was scanning the new books at the library. On the face of it, she's developed a really good idea--take the Choose Your Own Adventure story premise from children's books and make the adventures sexy and spicy for the adult ladies in the reading world. Want a wild night with a rock star? You can have it. More interested in the strong bodyguard or an older, businessman type? You can have that too. A sexy man with a sexy car...fun and games in the shower...a pick up at an art gallery? It's up to you and the choices you make.
It seemed like a fun way to meet that erotica category. And to a certain extent it was. But, honestly, the adventures I remember in the Choose Your Own Adventures ('cause I totally read those when I was growing up) were much more fun and absorbing than the available choices here. Pretty standard fantasies with very few trimmings and not much excitement. It definitely didn't make me feel like I was stepping into alien territory and enjoying it--even when I deliberately made choices that I wouldn't in real life (actually that would be most of them). There was no sensuality--and I think that's what makes erotica sexy for me (and possibly most women). The choices were pretty much--snag this guy (or girl as the case may be), get it on, decide if you're done for the evening and then go for another round or head home for jammies and a dvd.
A really good idea for something different on the adult level that didn't fulfill expectations. Enough fun and adventure for two and a half-ish stars.

Ugh this book was THE DUMBEST. I picked it up off the ARC shelf looking to have some giggles with Hillary Dog, and it is so disappointing. It's not that [b:Pretty Little Mistakes: A Do-Over Novel|659635|Pretty Little Mistakes A Do-Over Novel|Heather McElhatton|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1347918140s/659635.jpg|2935240] is genius or anything, but that book is certainly more creative and had more interesting choices. For this dumb book all roads lead home to watch Bridget Jones in sweatpants. PUH-LEASE.
