This one is amazing! As always with Christie the final mystery reveal is stunningly accomplished and beautifully ties up all the loose ends Christie has so carefully dangled along the way. The body of the story in this book is also excellent. I tend not to like Christie's books when the murder isn't committed until later in the story, but in this book, the late murder worked for me because of the recurring series character, Mrs. Oliver's, presence from the start.

A little slow in the middle, almost repetitive. The ending though! Agatha leaves little hints all over but they don't line up until the end.

Desiludiu-me um pouco devido à explicação do crime e às suas razões. Parecia que estava a ler sobre um crime completamente diferente daquele que nos foi apresentado ao longo do livro. E não fiquei convencida. Apenas gostei que uma certa e determinada peça, sempre muito presente ao longo da história, tenho tido uma relevância especial no final do livro.

Ik vond het plot in dit verhaal ietwat vergezocht, en wist me ook niet helemaal te grijpen zoals andere Agatha Christie boeken dat wel deden, dus ik had deze graag meer sterren willen geven, maar hij kwam niet verder dan een gemiddeld boek.
Hercule Poirot lijkt in dit boek ook iets minder in vorm, deel van het verhaal wordt verteld vanuit de politie die de verdachten verhoort, waardoor wij als lezer af en toe wel wat hints krijgen, maar ik had toen ik het boek uit had niet het gevoel van dat ik dit zelf op had kunnen lossen.

Poirot wordt uitgenodigd op een tuinfeest waar een moordspel wordt gespeeld, maar dan wordt het meisje dat het lijk zou moeten spelen daadwerkelijk vermoord. Dit wordt gedaan door de gastheer op het feest George Stubbs. Hij heeft eerder zijn vrouw Hattie Stubbs vermoord en zijn nieuwe liefde uit Italië, overgebracht om haar plek in te nemen. Maar Marlene die het lijk speelde chanteerde George met dat ze wist wat hij had gedaan, om zijn geheim veilig te stellen moest ze dood. Het lijk van Hattie is begraven onder de folly die George snel liet bouwen.maria_elisabeth's review

Muy en la línea de Agatha Christie y de su famosísimo detective Hércules Poirot, en este libro de unos 20 capítulos te sumerges de nuevo en una serie de acontecimientos no tan inesperados pero que hacen que te quedes pegada al libro hasta el final. He de reconocer que no ha sido de mis lecturas favoritas de la autora, pero también he de reconocer que el final me ha sorprendido bastante, haciendo que se me quedara el “culo torcido” con el último capítulo. ⠀
En esta historia, el libro comienza de forma diferente a las que yo había leído previamente ya que es llamado el detective a Nasse House cuando todavía no ha ocurrido nada, en previsión de que pudiera suceder. Y, sorpresa sorpresa, hay un cadaver de por medio.

Clever premise, but having read a lot of Christie's work, I can pick up patterns in her plot devices and red herrings. Unlike her other novels, this one announced clues too explicitly and tried too hard to deceive the reader, which led to the opposite effect for me. It was a pleasure, though, returning to an old familiar character, Hercule Poirot, whose developed persona and distinct voice I could see and hear from the words on the page.
