I liked the premise of this book: three women affected by a mass shooting. However, the storytelling was just ok. Unfortunately, the "mystery" that ties the three women together was apparent early on, making me impatient throughout much of the book. Other than the mentions of the local university and a significant company in Boise, this book could have been set anywhere. I would have liked more local flavor.
Graphic: Eating disorder, Grief, Injury/Injury detail, Medical content, Violence, Suicide, Suicidal thoughts, Sexual content, Blood, Car accident, Death of parent, Mass/school shootings, Medical trauma, Mental illness, Child death, Drug use, Gore, Murder, Abandonment, Alcohol, Death, Self harm, and Gun violence
Minor: Cancer and Terminal illness

3.5 stars. This was a fairly typical "group of women united by tragedy" story, in this case centered around a shooting in the bar. The three main characters are the mother of the shooter (and interesting perspective), wife of a victim who was in a coma, and another woman who escaped (with short vignettes from the other victims). Some of their perspectives were more interesting than others, and they ran together a bit at first.
The reveal near the end, with the waitress as the long-lost daughter of the man in the coma, felt a little cheap and took away from the story, in my opinion.
I listened to this as an audiobook and enjoyed the different narrators for each perspective.
I read it because:
