Yet again, Turner has written an enthralling, entertaining story that's basically just about two men walking for days on end. But there's so much more: the insight into what Kamet really thinks about the Attolians, the hints at Eugenides's sly plans (never fully revealed until the end, of course), the myths and customs to provide depth to the story.

I have no idea how to explain why I love this series so much, but I'm sad and excited to finish the series with the next book. As always, excellent narration by Steve West.

I said my biggest problem about Conspiracy of Kings was that it wasn't a book about Eugenidies - Thick as Thieves both is and isn't, and that's its greatest strength. It regains the buddy-comedy antics in misunderstandings between Kamet and Costis, while also musing heavily on Kamet's place in the world. I always say I enjoy stories about cycles of abuse and how that abuse shapes your view of the world, but more often than not, I'm talking about a villain - Kamet decidedly is not, and is man who expectations about himself and his destiny set by his time as a slave. For that reason, this entire book plays on your expectations, of every character and their motivations until every seemingly-inconsequential detail is justified.
