After seeing this book every time I walked into my bookstore, I finally decided to pick this up. Since watching the tv series Once Upon A Time, I have a soft spot for the idea that Captain Hook is actually the hero of his story with Peter Pan.

This book was everything I wanted it to be and more.

Lost Boy is such an interesting and especially dark take on the original fairytale, and I immensely enjoyed me time reading it.
It was super easy to fall into the story and to fall in love with Jamie and care about him. I just wanted him to be happy, but I knew that this was not a story that promised a happy ending, even though he deserved one so much, which made reading his story all the more heartbreaking. Nevertheless, I really liked how the slow, but steady change in his relationship with Peter was portrayed. It was super interesting to read about how the island and Peter began to loose its magic for him and how he struggled to admit this to himself. I also loved seeing how he cared for the other boys (who I adored) and looked out for them. You can not help but sympathise with him. And you also can not help but resent and hate Peter the same we he does. Christina Henry created a twisted, ruthless, cruel and dark version of Peter, and I loved it. He truly is a monster.
Both Jamie and Peter are complex and well developed, which made their relationship and story all the more fascinating to read about. There is as much love as there is hate between them.
I also loved Hook‘s main companions; Charlie and Sal, and even Nod. Their loyalty and love for one another was one of my favourite parts about the book.
Seeing the story develop was incredibly fascinating. I knew how the story was going to end, but I still found myself turning page after page because I desperately wanted to know how we would get there. This just tells how incredibly engaging the writing and the plot was. I also highlighted so many quotes that made me think.
Hook’s story is filled with so much grief, guilt, resentment, anger but also love and campanionship.
I truly loved reading his story.

Holy crap. The last 50 or so pages were so fast paced - my heart was racing. And the ending? What a gut punch. I don’t normally read fiction but this kept me, pardon the pun, hooked

I might have missed my maturity window for this one. Good book, but I wasn't into it.
