Мисля, че майсторството на един писател си личи по способността му да разкаже една обикновена, дори малко банална любовна история, по вълнуващ начин. Барнс е наистина брилянтен разказвач, дори в последната част на романа, която звучи малко объркано и какафонично. И най-хубавото че е безкрайно честен, описвайки тъмната страна на чувствата - не притъпява болката, не дава прошка с лека ръка и не украсява историята от дистанцията на времето.

No me gustó la voz del narrador ni los tonos en los que se expresaba (¿quizá esto último se debe a la traducción?). Tiene muchísimos momentos lindos y notables, sobre todo las relacionadas a las reflexiones en torno a la intimidad y la naturaleza del amor. Lamentablemente, a veces las sentí un poco cursis.

tender, captivating, heartbreaking. but also lucid, cynical, phylosophical. a thorough description of love, the most complete I've found to date. could make it into the notebook of casey paul. I liked the switch from first person (=protagonism, lively) to second person (=a bit more detached, dramatic, powerful) to third person (=cynical, logical, rational). Again the theme of memories and human tropes and what is, if it exists, the truth about people and relationships. feels old but also modern.

Very detached from its subject matter I thought. Considering that it was all about love I didn’t feel it as I felt I should have. Maybe I was meant to feel that way. Certainly the ending suggests as much

This book probably deserves more than my ramblings after a particularly bad stint of unending migraines. I was unable to identify with the story, a story that seemed excruciatingly sad and nihilistic I might add. I took my about a month to read the last 100 pages (due to those migraines), but it had taken me over 9 months to read the first 120. I just couldn't work up to investing myself in the story.
