In this book I feel like Bonnie was talking down so much on herself because Matt was abducted. My favorite character was Matt because of his energetic spirit and how he was able to keep calm even after he was abducted. I would say the characters felt very real to me because there was no gurantee nothing good would happen but, there was no gurantee that nothing bad would happen while Matt was away. I found it difficult to care about Matt at first because he just sounded like a random kid who was dumb enough to follow a random man. But then I grew to like him over the chapters because of his personality. I gave it a 5 star rating because the book didn't feel slow nor fast to me.

Matt always wondered about his dad. And one day, his dad took him from his school and told him he would never see his mom or sister again because they died in a car accident. Matt regretted what he wished for, but he was sure this was his new life... until he saw his sister at a Mariner's game.

Goodreads readers ranked this book a 4.20 and I'd recommend it if you're into:

suspenseful story lines
baseball story line
kidnapping/abduction
crime

This book was a page turner, but it was out of pure curiosity, not out of an intriguing story line or excellent writing.

Pros: the story line was intriguing, mysterious, and suspenseful; the charcter identities were well illustrated and easily identified, including secondary characters. The process of an abduction - from the policy investigation, to an amber alert, to the fading news stories seemed well researched, or if nothing else, well observed.

Cons: the writing was very basic, and so it felt too innocent, almost. Even for a small boy, I expected there to be a little bit more fear and anger illustrated, but it felt like the author was trying to make it easy for a small boy to read.
Which brings me to the identification of this book - it's marked as a children's book, which really just bothers me. I always reference the page of the book that shows the copyright and publishing information, which gives me an idea of when the book was written, a summary, and the identification of the book - usually in 3-5 categories. This was identified as a children's book, which was a little strange to me. It just kind of lingered over me throughout the book.

This book felt more like a PSA than anything else. However, I don't suppose that's a bad thing, considering the subject matter.

I liked it. Max and Bobbie were relatable characters. The infamous gambling dead beat father gripped me by the pages. Enthralling series it is.

This book kept me on the edge of my seat! I especially enjoyed how it was set in Seattle - I could visualize everything! This story showed how easy it is for kids to be abducted and how if you see something - say something! Don’t brush it off!
