I want to give this book a five star so bad, but unfortunately for it and for me, something very anxiety inducing happened while I was reading it and now it's tangled with my reading experience

I loved this. It's great to have an Ashley Herring Blake story about grief and loneliness as it stays with you as an adult, which feels weird to open with but it's ultimately what I most appreciated about this book. Delilah is really well written; it's very apparent in her dynamic with Claire that Claire has had to learn to communicate decently but Delilah's various traumas have made it hard to find her words. Delilah bonding with Ruby over art and just kindred soul-ness is also really beautiful.

This was a super cute book. I really wish it had been funnier or had better banter. I would love to read the next two to see how they change and grow.

The audiobook is a bit distracting with almost every sentence ending in "said". Especially when it is a volley of conversion. Astrid said - Delilah said - Astrid said - Delilah said- Claire said...
