Loved: basically everything! I laughed and I cried and then I cried again. A huge, cathartic fuck you to JK Rowling.Ā

Didnā€™t love: I donā€™t super relate to YA protags anymore, but thatā€™s just because Iā€™ve aged out of them.

As always with anthologies, there were some short stories I liked more than others but on the whole, I enjoyed some of the short stories so much Iā€™m giving the rating a 4 instead of a 3. I definitely enjoyed the magic theme- Iā€™m no longer much of a fantasy reader, but teen me definitely was and definitely would have loved this. I do feel like a lot of the short stories had the similar pigeonhole of binary roles they had to break out of, I would have loved to see more variety of experiences. There were a few things I actively wasnā€™t wild about- the ā€œlesson learnedā€ from Sarah Mayhew and how suicide was handled in the last short story. Favorites were probably Dragons Name Themselves; Bend the Truth, Break It Too; and Espejismos.
