Why do strong series always end so weakly? This book was weak and I didn't enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the other two.

What a lovely way to end the trilogy! All the characters and their different motives and political machinations, how they come into conflict with each other and how they work together to achieve their goals... It's all wonderfully woven together along with the mythology and magic of the world. The world building is phenomenal and the plot has lots of twists and turns that serve to better the story. I've enjoyed this journey greatly and highly recommend it.

PS. ALL the characters are POC, the main character is a woman, and there is a prominent queer couple featured, just in case you're looking for representation.

4.5 stars!

Thank you NetGalley for providing me with a review copy in exchange for an honest review!

I just finished this one and had to immediately jump into this mini review because I have SO MANY FEELINGS. Admittedly, I found the first chunk of the book a little bit hard to get back into unlike nearly all of book two. But things did move along and it didn't necessarily drag. There was some hinting to a ship that I wasn't sure I wanted to happen... but then the second half of the book came down like a storm and I feel like I'm still catching my breath! It ended up quite the conclusion to the trouble brewing in Daevabad and I loved what she did with EVERYTHING in the end, even if I had earlier doubted. The last handful of chapters were just the perfect ending, a mixture of bittersweet, last minute revelations, hope and even an out loud laugh from myself. I only wish the romance had been a more integral part of the plot throughout these books, but what an amazing Arabian fantasy trilogy!

Wow, this whole series is one of the BEST fantasy trilogies I’ve ever read! This particular book was fairly lengthy and covered A LOT of ground, but I felt so connected to these characters throughout the series and was invested in every word.
I was so mad with Dara for so long but when Manizheh enslaved him once again I felt truly sorry for him. He had his bodily autonomy taken away from him and it was sick. I so hope he’s able to find peace for himself one day. Ali and Nahri growing closer was done beautifully. I laughed the hardest when Ali’s siblings were joking about how many times Ali and Nahri kissed. I hope Muntadhir and Jamshid can live a happy life together. The reveal of Nahri’s childhood and her mother was enlightening and Ali’s journey with his own marid heritage was enthralling. I greatly enjoyed getting to know Hatset more and the nation of Ta Ntry and to see her relationship with Ali. I legit cried when it was revealed that Nahri’s human grandfather was the old man working in the palace kitchen.
(These spoilers are to help me remember things when I come back to my review someday.)

The world and character building in these novels is something to be studied. I highly recommend this series to any fantasy lover!
