I put a bunch of emily henry books on hold because everyone was reading them and keep slogging through even though they are Not For Me. the characters feel indistinguishable from each other and each book reads so wildly manic pixie that i have to scream sometimes. emily henry can write compelling fast reads that feel good going down; those just aren’t usually what i enjoy.

Honestly Emily Henry can do no wrong and this was exactly what I needed to get me out of a reading slump that I was so deep in. I love that the story focused on their friendship more than anything. Obviously it’s a friends-to-lovers trope, but their romantic relationship didn’t feel rushed. Definitely a slow burn but the banter between Alex and Poppy was excellent and I found myself laughing out loud so much throughout this entire book. Something about Emily Henry’s writing pulls me in so easily and I cannot wait to read more from her. Definitely an auto-buy author at this point. Overall a fun, easy read.

Loved loved loved. Love a romance that is as much or more about the friendship as the romantic relationship. And the book truly feels like you get to go on a series of trips. What an enjoyable read!

You have no idea how much I needed to finally read a GOOD romance. I was so tired of the shitty romances I've been reading lately.  I've been wanting to read this book for so long, I was scared I had my expectations way too high. But it DID NOT disappoint. It had the slow burn, the right person wrong time trope, a GOOD friends to lovers story. I absolutely loved how it made me feel.

Although at first I was having a hard time engaging with the characters and their story (and with the way it was written), I ended up just going with flow and having a great time.

Incredibly light book and easy read. Narrative technique was fun but honestly the characters weren’t deep enough for me to continue hearing about their childhood/past/coming of age over and over again. That being said, all of the characters (except the main character) were incredibly kind and likable. Honestly, The highlight of this book is the way that the author speaks of love. It’s beautiful, emotional, and rings true. There is also boundary setting, self awareness and personal reflection…Three things you rarely see in romance novels. However the main relationship is pretty juvenile , toxic, codependent, and pretty selfish. It would have been nice to see the main character actually grow over time instead of cramming a decade of emotional growth into the last two chapters.  That being said it was a fun and easy book, perfect to talk about when you meet people on vacation.

I started this reread because it was my birthday and this is one of my favourite books.
The day after my birthday was a collossal mess and unexpectedly stressful. This story is a ray of sunshine. I love both Poppy and Alex. I love the way Emily Henry shows their friendship.
I even think that the third act conflict is valid.
If you like stories spanning years, travelling the world and the US and home being a person then read this book.
