“I am Amora Montara, and I will no longer be a pawn. I will be a queen.”

All the Tides of Fate by Adalyn Grace is the sequel to All the Stars and Teeth. It was anti-climatic and unnecessary. All the Stars and Teeth should've just been a standalone, changing the ending a bit, but no. We get a whole new book that was a struggle to read.

Genre: YA Fantasy
Type: 2nd in a duology
POV: 1 POV, first person, present tense
Age Rating: 15-18 years old

~Synopsis~

Amora Montara has saved her kingdom from the dangerous rebellion and has taken her rightful place as the queen of Visidia. But, the islands of the kingdom are in turmoil and her people are questioning her authority. With her magic lost, and half her soul connected to the boy she once loved, she can't show her weakness. To get her magic back, she embarks on a quest for a mythical artifact that could fix everything—at a terrible cost. Amora discovers that the power to rule might just destroy her.

“There are many I have lost, but I do not allow myself to become lost with them. They wouldn't want us to pause our lives because their time is up. Grieve, but do not lose yourself to your mourning.”

~Writing and Setting~

Once again, I struggled with Grace's writing style. It was basic and it didn't flow well. There was unnecessary paragraphs and just too much. This book did not need to be 400 pages long. The settings for the most part didn't change and nothing was super memorable.

“Just because things are difficult right now, that doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong."

~Plot~

The whole reason this book exists is not a very good reason. Amora wants her magic back, but she can't let anyone know she's lost it, and she pushes everyone away. She makes it look like she's looking for a suitor when she's looking for an artefact that will change her fate? It just doesn't work. The pacing was all over the place. And the intentions just weren't strong enough for this book to make sense.

"You need to get out of the past if you're ever going to see a better future.”

~Characters~

If you read my review on the first book, you'll know that I don't like Amora. This book made it worse. Wayyyyy worse. I don't just dislike her now. I hate her. She lost her magic and suddenly she's even more annoying. Like her magic was the only defining thing about her. She pushes Bastian away, even though she loves him, because he has half of her soul. What?! That makes no sense. The way she acts is so immature and stupid, I wanted to chuck the book every time she opened her mouth. I could rant about this for a long time but yeah. She was terrible. Bastian again was fine. I sort of felt bad for him by the way he was treated by Amora, but I didn't really care about him. Ferrick though... I love Ferrick. Easily the best character of this duology. And Vatea was Vatea. Eh.

"I would move mountains for you. I would chase down the stars just so you could hold one."

~Overall~

All the Tides of Fate, well, lets just say I won't be reading it again. After reading this, I wish the first book was just a standalone and that this didn't exist. The only thing that redeemed this book in the slightest was Ferrick. This is my personal opinion and if you loved this book, go you! But, it wasn't for me unfortunately .

“Loss will rip you apart, Amora... It will take whatever you give it, and it will never be satisfied. So don't you dare give it yourself.”

This was such a great sequel. You can really see that the authors writing has had a chance to develop. The world building and magic systems were so well done. We learned so much more about the several different types of magic that the kingdoms offer and what they all are capable of. I also really like the developing love story.

I cried. No surprise there.

This duology was just amazing and I loved the way all of the characters and storylines developed as the series went on. The writing was amazing and the pacing was good, keeping me engaged the entire time. A new favourite duology and I am already looking forward to an inevitable reread.
