I can't believe I've gone all this time without reading a Sally Rooney book. I loved this book so much I genuinely can't say a bad thing about it. I wasn't really sure what to expect from this one but it didn't disappoint! It follows two friends, Frances and Bobbi, and the married couple they get involved with, Melissa and Nick. Plotline wise, I was so invested in France's experiences throughout the book with her parents, Bobbi, Nick, and even her illness. In an awful sort of way I could actually relate to Frances' character a lot. She had such a unique voice and I found her actions throughout the book confusing but also intriguing. I felt the same way about almost every character as well, their actions read as very conflicting but I believe that was the point. I have many thoughts about Nick and Francis but they're not really relevant so who cares.

The stillness of this book was so enjoyable I loved it so much. The writing style was also amazing and it added so much character and warmth to the story. Overall, this definitely feels like a book I would reread in the future. I just had so much fun and can't wait to watch the Hulu series now!

Never in my life hated the characters in the book before, but this is a first for me. Especially the protagonist. The writing in itself is beautiful & relatable & simple, but its just the characters.

This book is easily one of my most annotated books because I was so angry & I had a lot to say. There were so many negative traits added to her, there was so much unlikability to each of them. And I was getting hopeful to be honest.

But of course, Frances disgusted me towards the end. Just embarrassing for her self-worth & pathetic.

It's not a bad book but it's just sad. Falling in love with someone that will never put you in the number one place where you should belong is sad.  Also, the manipulation and gaslighting of the main character are sad to watch. But at the same time, it's a very realistic scenario that many people can relate to in some of parts in daily life. I enjoyed it even when is not completely my cup of tea.

Things and people moved around me taking positions in obscure hierarchies, participating in systems I didn't know about and never would. A complex network of objects and concepts. You live through certain things before you understand them. You can't always take the analytical position.

This one was a ride. I liked the complexity of the characters especially Frances and Nick, did I sympathize with them tho? Not really. Even with these not so good feelings towards them I did relate to some things that Frances went through.
This was overall a pretty solid book even though sometimes it made me frustrated.
