A lushly written, queer reimagining of Dracula’s brides. In a letter to her husband, who she has just killed, Constanta reflects on her marriage to him and the other consorts.
The writing is breathtakingly beautiful. The story shows how hard it is to leave an abusive partner and the effects their abuse leaves on an individual. Each character is unique and the author does a great job showing the interpersonal relationships within the “brides/consorts.” The love that they share for one another proves to be a touching counterpart to the abuse from “Dracula.”

Probably works best as audiobook because it is all telling. I didn’t see any magic but think the author was working out abuse she suffered by writing.
