I have to admit, this book hit it on the head for me in terms of the tropes I like.  I'm starting to realize that I like certain romantic tropes more than others, and "sunshine/grump" is one of my favorites.

In No Offense, we meet Molly, the island's newest children's librarian and John, the island's sheriff.  Molly happens to find a baby in the bathroom of the library, and that event sets off a chain of events that has John & Molly stumbling into each other's paths for the entire book.  Their interactions are cute and a little bit aggravating, but that's what keeps you rooting for them the entire book.  I loved John's relationship with his daughter.  He tries so hard to be a good father even when he does want to only be a grump.  I loved the scene at the end where he dances with the dance team.

As for the mystery, it was the thread that wove the entire book together.  It allowed a few extra characters to really shine, like Ms. Tifton & her puppy.  I am really glad that I decided to keep reading this series.

The story is sweet — I think the voice actor’s narration marred my experience a bit. The voices and accents she affected for some of the characters were kind of annoying.
I liked the characters and the story alright, especially the mystery element, but there was almost too much going on at times. And I didn’t love the sheriff’s gruff, hyper-masculine characterization, though I’m sure it’s an accurate depiction of a lot of Southern law enforcement officers.

Although marketed as a romance, No Offense is really part cozy mystery, part rom-com.

Loved
* The setting - although it's a fictional island in the Florida Keys, it felt real.  The author really brought to life the characters that inhabited Little Bridge Island.  The combination of Florida crazy and small town was just perfect.
* The cozy mystery aspect of the book.  I know that many reviewers felt that Molly Montgomery needed to mind her own business but that is the whole point of a cozy mystery - the amateur sleuth.
* The banter between Molly and John was really cute.
* SUPER fast read.

Disliked
* At one point in the story someone mentions that Sherriff Hartwell takes his job seriously, but that's not the only thing - he takes himself way too seriously.  He always thinks he knows best, in a not-so-cute 1950s Father Knows Best Way.  He comes off not as someone who cares too much, but as paternalistic.
* The romance part of the story just fell flat.  I just did not buy into their relationship.  The verbal banter was cute but it did not translate to chemistry.  Also, I'm over this whole romance story line where guys who have very little sexual experience and have also been celibate for YEARS are so amazing in bed the first time they have sex with our story's heroine.  Sorry, not buying it.
