People were born, lived and died. They held funerals and wakes for those lost; those rituals were painful and heart wrenching, but also cathartic and healing. In her heart, she was glad a day waited on the horizon when there would be no more funerals, no more goodbyes. But without death at its end, did life have meaning?

I love all of G.S. Jennsen's books, and this one was no exception. However, it did feel a lot slower than her other books. I mean, the characters are stuck on Namino for almost the entire book! I kept thinking, "Can we get to the part where they leave the planet already?"
SpoilerThroughout the book, I was most curious to see what happened to Eren and Malcolm, but both characters had hardly any chapters. That also made this book feel slow.

My favorite part was a certain character's
Spoiler(Miriam)
ruminations on regenesis, and how it affected their outlook on life, and humanity as a whole. I also really liked Caleb and Marlee's scenes. I'm glad he came to understand and see her as the woman she is becoming, instead of babying her. The Godjans were definitely another highlight.

SpoilerOne part that didn't really make much sense to me was Malcolm's story. I found it kind of hard to believe that everyone takes the Savrakaths at their word when they said that Malcolm was dead. These are the very same people who lied about the existence of their weapons factory. Mia had a fleeting moment of doubt, and then the scene changed, and next we see, it's Malcolm's funeral. It seemed very odd to me.

I did like Caleb and Akeso's scenes, but it did start to feel repetitive after a while. The fact that he almost killed Alex seems very significant, but it was kind of glossed over at the end.

Overall I liked the book, but it seemed a lot slower than Jennsen's previous books. Nevertheless, I am really excited for what comes next!!
SpoilerEspecially Correadeo Praesidis' return! Hope he whips the Anadens into shape. And what happened to Mia?!!
