This book absolutely gutted me in the best way possible. As a queer Muslim, I have never felt more seen, more accepted, more valid, than when I read this book. Seeing Samra heal and grow into herself, seeing her find a community of queer Muslims, seeing her not only maintain her faith, but strengthen it -- not despite her queerness, but because of it -- was something I did not realize I needed. This book made me cry in pain, in sadness, and in hope.

I dunno if it's the book or if it's me, but I just didn't really connect with this one. The first part where she was talking about her childhood was pretty interesting to me and it felt cohesive, but the further along the book went the more I was left wanting detail.

I read this book in one sitting because it was so damn compelling. Once I started, I absolutely couldn't put it down. I loved following Samra's story as she discovered herself as a queer Muslim immigrant. While her story was sad at times (especially when she talked about her suicidal thoughts), it was ultimately uplifting. I'm so happy she shared her story with the world and has also given other queer Muslims a chance to share theirs.
