Not the conventional bildungsroman war story, this one reminded me of [b:The Names of the Dead|376629|The Names of the Dead|Stewart O'Nan|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1174289222s/376629.jpg|1070092] for being, in part, a mystery and of [b:The Things They Carried|133518|The Things They Carried|Tim O'Brien|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1424663847s/133518.jpg|1235619] for its acknowledgment of the contradictions in telling a "true" war story.
