Good gods this was awful.

So. Much. Repeating. You don't need to constantly repeat the children's ages. You don't need to give ever single friend the title "my dearest friend" every time anyone is mentioned.

It also took more than 50% of the book to even get to the murder and there was almost no sleuthing at all. This was so boring.

Rehashing all the past books in the series. Remember this murder? remember this person? remember? remember? remember?!

I'm glad that Carl got some facetime.

So many inconsistencies! It's mentioned it was a 9mm gun not too long after the murder. someone mentions they had one. Kelly asks Burt..."what kind of gun was it? you never told me" ...Yes. he did.

Conversations with Cassie and Eric are confusing too. They talk about how everyone knows now. Then there is a big conversation about informing families.

Why do I keep reading these?

I still want to go back to the beginning of the series, but the last few books have been disappointing.
There was little to no mystery in this book. The reveal was poorly executed.
Over written.
Mostly just a recap of the other books in the series?
There could have been a plot but instead there wasn’t.

I could create a drinking game for unnecessary adjectives. Most of the way through the book and still calling him new guy Larry and grill cook Larry.

Wow, this was a disappointment. I picked this book up on a whim, not having read anything else in the series. I was prepared for not fully knowing what was going on, perhaps, or not having a strong attachment to the characters. I was not prepared for a 50 page detailed recap of every book prior to this one, spoiling all of the mysteries (I quickly learned to skim). After that, it took nearly 150 pages for the mystery to even start... I kept going, "When is someone going to be murdered?!" And since the blurb reveals who's going to bite it, every time the character came on the scene, I found myself thinking, "Why are you still alive?"

Then, when the murder actually came, there was very little investigation. The main character basically sat around and occasionally had someone drop her a bit of gossip, which she passed on to the police. That's... it. That's her entire role. That's all the snooping she does. Then, the mystery is wrapped up off-screen--we don't even get a confrontation. What a letdown.

I'm giving it two stars because the characters seemed likable, though I had trouble keeping the straight. It was definitely cozy, and dealt with some realistic issues. But boy, I expected more knitting and mystery in A Knitting Mystery.
